About Us

A place where children are respected and loved.

History of the Child Development Center

The Center was founded in 1967 as an outreach program of the Church and is part of the Church’s ministry to the local community. It is a non-profit educational institution that fulfills the mission of the Church to provide safe, high quality childcare and education for young children in a loving and nurturing Christian environment.   The Center has grown and changed with the times to be a childcare program for children from infancy through preschool, with before and after-school enrichment provided for elementary children.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide quality care to children in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. We provide a happy environment with a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere where children can build trust with the adults who care for them. Children feel secure in the knowledge that they are loved and wanted, and they receive the appreciation, respect and acceptance they need.

Safety and Security
Your child’s safety and security is our #1 Priority. To ensure the safety, security and well-being of the children in our care, we have procedures and standards in place to cover pick-up and drop-off, visitors, equipment and furniture safety, transporting children and more. These procedures are periodically reviewed and updated to make certain they reflect the most current safety and security practices.

We recently completed a detailed security plan that included a move of the entrance from Third Street to our current location so we could better monitor the comings and goings of people entering the building. The plan also included more fencing around the playgrounds, an awning for cover during inclement weather, the leveling of the new entrance sidewalks to prevent tripping, and a corner mirror to help us see who is coming around the corner. We worked closely with a Bellaire Police Security Expert to help us design the plan and we are very pleased with the results.

We continue to look for ways to increase security and in April 2010, surveillance cameras will be installed in all classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds.

Our Operational Policies and Procedures are located in the Parent Handbook and are available for download in the “Learn More/Parent News” section of our website.

Release of Children
We take the responsibility of your child’s safety very seriously. Accordingly, we will only release your child to individuals authorized by you. Authorized individuals must be identified on your child’s enrollment forms and agreed upon by both parents. To authorize additional people, you must inform the office in writing before we allow your child to leave the property.

Food
Nutrition is a major factor in the physical, social, mental and emotional development of children. The CDC offers a good opportunity to establish nutritionally sound eating habits as well as an understanding of the relationship between food, health and growth.

Our goal is to have a positive influence in broadening children’s food experiences while being conscious of young children’s tastes and appetites. Nutrition education is integrated into the program through meals and snacks, regular cooking projects and activities in various learning centers.

We offer breakfast, lunch, morning and  afternoon snack. A Weekly Menu is available for download at the “LEARN MORE/CDC Parent” section of this website.

Food Allergies
All food brought onto the property must be nut free! This includes tree nuts, peanut butter crackers, Reese’s Cups, ingredients with peanut oil and any other nut products.

Discipline and Guidance
Our goal is to help children develop personal standards in self-discipline, and not to enforce a set of inflexible rules. Giving children understandable, consistent guidelines and redirecting their behavior helps them to develop internal control of their actions and encourages acceptable behavior.

At CCPCDC, discipline is:

  • Individualized and consistent for each child
  • Appropriate to the child’s level of understanding
  • Directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control.

Our teachers use only positive methods of discipline and guidance that encourages self-esteem, self-control, and self-direction.

For example:

  • Encouraging good behavior
  • Reminding a child of behavior expectations daily by using clear, positive statements (e.g. “Walking only” rather than “No running”)
  • Redirecting behavior using positive statements.

Cleanliness
We take very seriously the well-being of your child and we work hard to provide an environment that is as healthy as possible. Teachers are required to follow very specific procedures and guidelines concerning cleanliness and preventing the spread of germs.

Handwashing is the single most effective practice in preventing the spread of germs. Teachers are required to wash their own hands, as well as the hands of a child using described procedures, before and after engaging in a thorough list of activities, including

  • Upon arrival for the day
  • Before and after meals and snacks
  • After using the bathroom, assisting with toileting, or diapering
  • After outdoor play
  • After coming into contact with bodily fluids including wiping noses and coughing
  • Before and after using sensory tables
  • Any time hands are visibly soiled

Each night, a janitorial service with five or more staff thoroughly clean and sanitize classrooms, floors, bathrooms, hallways, and all areas of the CDC.
